DRDO VSHORADS is the indigenous MANPADS path intended to reduce dependence on imported Igla-S-class systems. Open reporting tracks a Jan 2023 AoN around ₹1,920 crore for the IR-homing VSHORADS path, plus separate emergency-procurement lots for near-term Army air-defence gaps. PIB records tests in 2024, 2025, and three successive trials on 27 Feb 2026 in final deployment configuration with field operators. Track as development/user-trial phase until bulk induction contract is public.
