PIB confirms the MoD signed the six-ship NGMV contract with Cochin Shipyard Limited in Mar 2023 at ₹9,805 crore. Steel cutting for the first ship was held on 16 Dec 2024, and induction is planned from 2027 onwards. Earlier GRSE/HSL attribution was incorrect.
